Installing wood-look tiles in the living room
Installing wood-look tiles in the living room – is it a good idea or not? In this blog, I'll explore it completely.
Very underfloor heating friendly
First of all, ceramic tiles with a wood motif are the very best conductors for underfloor heating, even better than PVC floors. Especially in these times where energy is becoming more and more expensive, it is wise to choose a tiled floor.
Durability
The lifespan of indoor ceramic floor tiles is extremely long. The tiles are also very scratch-resistant and hardly wear out. Ceramic tiles last more than a lifetime if laid properly. Nowadays, wood-look floor tiles can be made so that they are indistinguishable from real planks. Yet, wood-look tiles are more durable than a real wooden floor.

Cleaning wood-look tiles
For cleaning your floor, ceramic tiles are truly ideal. Mopping is a breeze, and water is not a problem for ceramics. Besides the living room, you can also easily place ceramic tiles in the kitchen, bathroom, or hallway. With a skirting tile along the edges, cleaning is even easier, ideal also in hospitality.
Seamless indoor-outdoor installation
With ceramic tiles, you can often lay the same tile indoors and outdoors. Do make sure this is possible. Check the r10 label for outdoor use. Especially with wood-look tiles, you can create the effect of a parquet floor indoors that transitions into a tiled terrace resembling decking.

Quality of wood-look tiles
Not all wood-look tiles are created equal! The difference in quality between factories is very large. Some parties make wood-look floors that almost resemble real wood. Others fail to replicate the feel of, for example, oak. So compare carefully! Also, always ask how many different "planks" are made per series. This says something about the quality. From 18 pieces is acceptable.

Which tile size?
For a small room, we do not recommend large tiles of 20x150 cm, but this is possible for larger spaces. With rectangular tiles, you can approximate the effect of laying parquet, which suits wood-motif tiles well. Those with a reasonable surface area can also choose the herringbone pattern. For bathrooms, the square 60x60 cm ceramic tile variant is more often chosen.
Also, check the thickness, usually 10 mm, if this works well with doors and so on, and consider a skirting tile.
Difference between PVC floors and wood-look tiled floors
PVC floors are more fragile than ceramic. Their lifespan is also shorter. Furthermore, ceramics often come from Europe, think Italy or Spain, while PVC comes from China. With a European product, you reduce your footprint. Ceramic tiles are extremely suitable for underfloor heating, even better than PVC floors. The price of ceramic floor tiles is higher, though. Both require craftsmanship from a good installer.

Alternatives to wood-look floor tiles? Solza Tile Trade has them
Besides ceramic wood-look parquet, you can also choose timeless ceramic concrete-look tiles for your living room, kitchen, showroom, or office building. Other options include ceramic marble-look tiles for luxurious walls, terrazzo-look tiles for, for example, bathroom floors or in the hallway. And also consider natural stone-look ceramic tiles for the entrance of your villa, luxurious company canteen, or in your kitchen diner.
Look-alike tiles vs. real marble, natural stone, or terrazzo
With so-called look-alike tiles, you are dealing with imitation versions (look-alikes) in ceramics. These are colorfast, dimensionally stable, and more affordable than real marble, real natural stone, or real terrazzo. Ask tile dealer Solza about the possibilities, contact our experts.
